The Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents runs its own sessions for groups. They are led by the museum's educators, in the museum rooms and in the permanent exhibition, working from witness accounts, archival documents and worksheets. Below are the topics we match to the groups that come on our programmes. The chosen workshop is added to the day, written into the plan and included in a single price.
Upper secondary schools and adult groups · about an hour and a half
Portraits of people from the Oświęcim region who brought help to prisoners, and what they paid for that help. The session is built on the accounts of witnesses to history.
What life was like for the people of the region under German occupation: forced labour, supplies, fear, the camp next door. Work with texts and archival documents.
The expulsions connected with the building of the camp. More than ten thousand people removed from their own homes in a matter of days, worked through from documents and from the memories of those who lived through it.
What encryption and cryptology are, how the well known ciphers worked and why they were used in wartime. Participants decipher and encipher messages themselves.
The story of Wladyslawa Rzepecka, a Home Army liaison officer from Libiaz. The workshop is built around the film “Kurierka” directed by Marek Luzar.
On 29 December 1942 four prisoners escaped from the camp with the help of the resistance. The workshop shows how such an escape was prepared and how many people had to take part in it.
A family from Poreba Wielka who helped a man who had escaped from the camp and suffered tragic consequences for it.
The lives of two Home Army women involved in helping prisoners of Auschwitz.
The last days of the camp, the liberation and the death marches, seen through the eyes of local people. The session ends with art work around the idea of freedom.
Upper secondary schools · about two hours · with a worksheet
The figure of Maria Bobrzecka. Participants look for traces of her work in the exhibition, fill in a worksheet, listen to witness accounts and build her biography together.
The work of Helena Plotnicka, one of the most important figures in the help given to prisoners. The same way of working: the exhibition, a worksheet, accounts, a biography.
Major Piotr Szewczyk, a Cichociemny paratrooper from Babice near Oświęcim. Participants reconstruct his life from the exhibition and from source material.
From the entry of the German troops to the everyday life of the occupation. Group work in the exhibition with worksheets, ending with a shared mind map.
Inclusive and therapeutic groups
The museum matches the topic and the form to the degree and the kind of disability, and agrees the programme with the teacher or the therapist. The sessions are built on conversation, with elements of art therapy and music therapy.
How to choose a topic
A workshop lasts about an hour and a half, a museum lesson about two hours. Up to twenty five people take part in one session, so a larger group is split and the day is arranged so that the other half visits something else in the meantime. Booking the session and agreeing the topic and the date are our job, and the cost of the session is included in the price of the whole programme. The language of the session is agreed at the time of booking.
The session topics follow the educational offer of the Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents. The descriptions are our own. The sessions are led by the museum's educators.
