An organised group does not buy a tour ticket from us; it books an educational programme priced for the whole group. It is led by our own guide, in the language of the group, from the first stop to the last. Below are the three versions, the way the day is organised and what you need to know before booking.

Three programmes

I. Zone of Interest, the core programme

3½–4 hours of visiting. For groups coming to this subject for the first time, who want to see in a single day how the whole system worked. From the Judenrampe through the food warehouses and the women's subcamp to the Remembrance Museum and the commandant's house.

II. Zone of Interest with a testimony

4–4½ hours of visiting. For groups who want a survivor's testimony alongside the facts and the figures. With the exhibition of drawings by Marian Kolodziej at Harmeze.

III. Zone of Interest with industry

4½–5 hours of visiting. For groups interested in the economic side of the camp and in what is left of it in the landscape. With the mine at Jawiszowice and the grounds of one of the largest subcamps in the system.

A programme to order

None of the versions is fixed. The choice of sites, their order and the way the story is told can be matched to the age of the participants, to what they already know and to what the trip is built around.

Museum workshop at the MPMZO

Any programme can be extended with a session run by the educators of the Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents, in the museum rooms and in the permanent exhibition, working from witness accounts, archival documents and worksheets. For a school group it turns a day in the field into a full teaching programme. Adult groups usually leave it out.

A workshop lasts about an hour and a half, a museum lesson about two hours. Up to twenty five people take part in one session, so a larger group is split and the day is arranged so that the other half visits something else in the meantime. Booking the session and agreeing the topic and the date are our job. See all fourteen topics →

How we organise it

Guides

One person leads the programme from the first stop to the last. Our guides hold guiding qualifications and are enthusiasts of this subject.

Sites closed to the public

The SS canteen, Bor, the mine and the bathhouse at Jawiszowice were out of reach for decades. Today they can be entered, but they do not stand open and they are not opened on demand. We arrange our access in advance and lead the visits from outlines we have written ourselves.

Travel along the route

The sites are kilometres apart, so we travel between them by minibus or coach. The time we give is the length of the whole programme on the ground: the visiting, the drives between the sites, parking and the walk to each one. Travel from Krakow is counted separately. We can provide the transport or run the programme in the group's own vehicle.

Languages

Polish, English, Spanish and Portuguese. The guide leads the whole programme in the language of the group, from the first stop to the last.

Group size

Up to fifty people per guide. The work goes best with a group of around thirty participants.

Quotation

We do not publish a price table, because everything depends on the starting point. A departure from Krakow is one thing, a departure from another city another, and a programme for a group already in Oświęcim another again. We price the whole: the guide, the entries and the workshop if you choose it.

Booking

The earlier the better, because access to some of the sites has to be arranged in advance. Two weeks is usually enough, but at shorter notice it is still worth asking.

The State Museum

We do not book entry to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum; the group arranges that part itself. Our programme works as a day of its own and as a complement to a visit to the Museum.

Terms for organised groups

Booking and payment

Once the programme and the date are agreed we issue a proforma invoice. The deposit is 30% of the order value and it is the deposit that secures the date and the access to the sites. The remaining 70% is payable after the programme has taken place, within seven days of the invoice date.

Schools and public institutions

Publicly funded bodies settle in full after the programme has taken place, with no deposit, on the basis of a written order and an invoice with a fourteen day term. We know that a school usually cannot pay in advance, and we do not make an obstacle of it.

Change of date

The date can be moved once, free of charge, no later than seven days before the programme. The deposit paid carries over to the new date. A coach, illness in the class or a shifted school calendar is no reason for anyone to lose money.

Cancellation

Cancellation earlier than fourteen days before the date: we refund the whole deposit paid. Between fourteen and seven days before: we keep 10% of the order value and refund the rest of the deposit. Later than seven days before: we keep 20% of the order value. These amounts cover the reserved entries and the work put into preparing the programme.

Change in the number of participants

Please confirm the final number of participants no later than three working days before the date. Any difference against the order is settled on the final invoice.

Timings

Access to some of the sites is booked for specific hours with the people who look after them. The programme starts and ends at the agreed time, so a group arriving late shortens the visit rather than moving it.

Weather

We do not cancel the programme because of the weather. In bad conditions we shorten the time outdoors and move the narrative into buildings where the weather does not matter. The substance stays the same.

Cancellation on our side

If for reasons beyond our control one of the sites is not made available, we propose another place in its stead or reduce the price by that part of the programme. If we were unable to run the programme at all, we refund the whole payment.

The State Museum

We neither book nor sell entry to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. The group arranges that part of the trip itself, directly with the museum.

Written confirmation

On request we issue written confirmation of participation in the educational programme, for a school, a university or the organiser of the trip.

Enquiry about a programme for a group

We reply within one working day with a price for the whole: the guide, entry to the sites, transport and the museum workshop if it is to be part of the day. We only ask for what we need in order to put the programme together.
