What happened here

From September 1943 up to a thousand prisoners built the Walter thermal power station for the state energy company. In January 1944 four hundred and seventy seven prisoners were recorded, in February four hundred and ninety nine.

Lagisza is one of the few subcamps closed before the evacuation of January 1945, simply because the work had run out.

What is left

The camp stood on ul. Energetyczna in Lagisza, an industrial district of Bedzin, roughly opposite the power station. It is not certain whether it was on the northern or the southern side of the street.

In front of the main gate of the Lagisza power station stands a stone obelisk commemorating the murdered prisoners of the subcamp.
