What happened here

The strength grew sharply: a hundred people in June 1943, one thousand six hundred in August, about two thousand in January 1944, three thousand two hundred in the summer of 1944 and three thousand six hundred and sixty four on the day of the evacuation.

The prisoners worked in the Jaworzno pits Dachsgrube, Rudolfgrube and Richardgrube and on the construction of the Wilhelm power station for the state energy company.

What is left

The grounds of the former camp are today occupied by ul. Grunwaldzka, ul. Puszkina and ul. Inwalidow Wojennych in Jaworzno, built up with small workshops. Identifying the original buildings has proved difficult.

On ul. Grunwaldzka stands a stone monument raised over a mass grave of prisoners. The place commemorates both the Auschwitz subcamp and the post-war COP Jaworzno camp.
