What happened here

From March 1944 prisoners worked in the repair workshops of the Reich railways, overhauling rolling stock and tanks. On 17 January 1945 there were one thousand three hundred and thirty six of them.

Gliwice is the only city in which four separate Auschwitz subcamps operated, each with its own commander.

What is left

So little survives that establishing the exact location of the camp has proved very difficult.

On ul. Przewozowa, on the grounds of the Welding Institute, there is a plaque from 1979 recording the existence of a branch of KL Auschwitz in this area. The camp itself, however, stood elsewhere.
