What happened here

The strength reached eight hundred people in August and September 1944; on 17 January 1945 four hundred and forty four men remained here.

The prisoners were employed by Organisation Todt, the Zieleniewski company and the military administration of the city. It is an arrangement typical of the last phase of the war, when the labour force was divided between several users.

What is left

Because so little remains, establishing the exact location of the camp was difficult. There is no certainty that the surviving fragments come from Gleiwitz IV at all. The site is today occupied by allotment gardens.

On ul. Andersa in Gliwice, near the roundabout, stands a monument with a plaque recording the existence of a branch of KL Auschwitz in this area.
