Ironworks

What happened here

From May 1944 about nine hundred men worked at the ironworks casting anti-aircraft gun barrels and producing shells. On 17 January 1945 there were eight hundred and sixty three of them.

The works were part of the Berghütte concern from Cieszyn, the same one that owned Eintrachthütte and Bismarckhütte.

What is left

The remains of the camp lie on ul. Niwecka in Sosnowiec, between the railway lines. During the field research the foundations of many camp buildings were visible.

On the grounds of the subcamp itself there is no monument and no plaque. A memorial plaque from 1985 stands at the entrance gate of the ironworks.
