What happened here

From September 1944 about six hundred men cleared rubble after the air raids and kept the refinery running. On 17 January 1945 there were five hundred and sixty one of them.

The refinery, before the war the property of the Vacuum Oil Company, was taken over by the German occupation authorities.

What is left

The grounds of the former camp lie opposite the Czechowice refinery, by the railway line, opposite the Czechowice-Rafineria halt, on ul. Lukaszewicza. The camp buildings have remained almost untouched.

This is a place where the scale and the layout of a camp can be read without any reconstruction. A rarity among the forty five subcamps.

Photographs and documents from the time the camp existed are held and made available by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim.
