What happened here

After the Allied raids on the refinery at Czechowice about a hundred prisoners were sent to remove unexploded bombs from the works and the surrounding area. The detachment was formed on 20 August 1944 and dissolved in September.

It was work in which any day could be the last, and the men assigned to it were treated accordingly.

What is left

One of the two buildings in which the prisoners were quartered survives, the station building of Czechowice-Dziedzice Poludnie.

Neither at the station nor on the grounds of the former brewery bottling plant is there a plaque commemorating the prisoners of this detachment.
